Research

Eyegaze staff have been involved in research for a number of years and during that time have looked at issues surrounding Deaf telecomms, interpreting, linguistics and issues surrounding hearing parents with Deaf children. Much, but not all, of the Academic Researchresearch has been conducted ‘under’ the direction of the Centre for Deaf Studies at Bristol University. It is our belief that research is a window through which a community can learn about itself and it is also an essential tool that can facilitate a speedier move towards full equality for the Deaf community in the 21st Century. As a team we are fully aware that the wider the scope of our research the more fully we can understand and explain focused research questions. An holistic approach towards research forces us to consider complex relationships between a number of seemingly unrelated and inconsequential factors. An example of this is the service VIRC, a remote video interpreting centre.

There are political, social and economic implications in setting up a service such as this and Eyegaze realises that for both the Deaf community and for hearing people issues will exist that are not often found in a ‘more traditional’ business model. Whilst the staff at EyeGaze do not have all the answers (and how could we, when no-one has all the questions?) we do have an insatiable desire for knowledge and it is through this web portal that we hope you will share knowledge with us, as we will share with you.
