A boost for Welsh signers as Cardiff Castle commissions its own BSL video guide - available now.
Cardiff Castle has acted as the focal point of the Welsh capital for two thousand years. Through Roman, Norman, Medieval and up to modern times the castle site has played an important role in the affairs of the city and has grown to become the impressive presence we can see in the heart of Cardiff today.

In June 2008 Cardiff Castle will be officially launching a refurbishment of parts of the site along with a brand new centre which will act as the starting point for a fresh and innovative range of interpretation options. One of these options will be a British Sign Language version of the multimedia tour that will be accessed on a new touch-screen device called the Opus Touch which is provided by Acoustiguide.
EyeGaze have been contracted by Acoustiguide to translate and film the multimedia tour script and process the video into a format that will play on the new devices at the highest possible quality. EyeGaze and Acoustiguide have now worked together on several heritage projects over the last few years and have built up a relationship of trust and mutual respect. Acoustiguide recognise that a true grasp of the issues relating to sign language alongside technical and creative skills is essential to deliver the best production.
EyeGaze places a great deal of importance on the presentation of British Sign Language by native Deaf users of the language and where possible by a signer who is local to the relevant area. On this occasion three excellent presenters from South Wales contribute to an exciting and vibrant delivery of the information that will really bring the castle to life for Deaf visitors. Lead by Sarah Lawrence, a professional presenter and business woman who has worked with the local ITV news and the Welsh Channel 4 alternative S4C, with support from Fiona Nicholson and Jeff Brattan-Wilson, who are both very experienced high quality presenters, this team have produced a first class translation.
The sign language guide is available now.
