Festive Signs

As we move into the season of goodwill EyeGaze aims to spread a little festive cheer to the sign language community.

BSL Video LaunchIt is often at public holidays and times of celebration when the divisions in society are at their most apparent. As we all raise our glasses with one another those left on the sidelines feel their isolation more than ever.

EyeGaze, through its Equal Sign translation service, hopes to help raise the profile Deaf community by offering massive discounts on English to British Sign Language (BSL) translations thereby stimulating a surge of sign language video onto the Internet. It is through recognition by mainstream society of this minority language that sign language users will feel that their equal standing in our nation has also been recognised.

We all take for granted the enormous amount of information available to us at the click of a mouse while only a tiny fraction of this is delivered in sign language. It needs to be understood that many Deaf people view English very much as a second language and that they have the right to access essential information as much as anybody. Even on occasions where a multitude of foreign languages are offered for our ethnic minorities it is rare that BSL will also be present.

Take a look at what form this translation might take by clicking on the BSL icon and then visit Equal Sign and see how easy it can be, and how cost effective, to make your core information available in BSL.
